Essential Eating Tips to Keep You Young & Healthy
Do we want to talk about getting old? Well nothing wrong with that. The thing is getting old eventually comes to all of us. However
research has shown that if you eat certain foods and avoid others, this can help to keep your body younger and healthier for longer. Here is our
brief guide of what to eat and what to take a rain check on to help keep you looking younger than your years.
Healthy Heart
To keep that wonderful muscle that most of us take for granted in top working order and to keep it healthy for longer make
sure you have plenty of garlic as this can help stop the arteries hardening, which can lead to heart disease. Also try and cut out the greasy
stuff. Food that is cooked in oil and then reheated like some of the fast food outlets, produce more free radicals in the body which lead to
aging and heart disease.
Active Brain
Yes it’s those blueberries. Research has proved that blueberries help to boost balance and co-ordination as well as your short
term memory. Your short term memory declines as you age, so to try and keep your mind as good as it was when you were younger try to eat around
half a cup of blueberries a day. Also keep your brain cells lively by doing puzzles and adding up numbers in your head.
Protect Your Nerves
Folic acid (folate) is a vitamin that protects your nerves against old age, so you should make sure you get enough everyday.
You can find it in most breakfast cereals and leafy green vegetables.
Keep Your Bones Strong
A health study has found that women who eat a lot of potassium rich foods have a stronger skeleton. Bananas are one of the
best sources of potassium, so make sure you include bananas in your diet to keep your bones healthy. But don't forget to get enough calcium too,
which can be found in dairy products.
Good Eyesight
Your eyesight tends to deteriorate with age and we all spend so much time looking at a computer screen which also puts a
strain on our eyes. But you can reduce the risk of having to wear glasses by making sure you eat at least three lots of leafy green vegetables a
week. But also cut out white bread and sugary cereals as these make the body produce high levels of insulin, which in turn can alter the shape of
your eyeballs and cause short sightedness.
Steer clear of Back Pain
If you eat a lot of fatty foods and make regular habit of doing so it can clog up your arteries and this could increase the
risk of aches and pains. This is because if arteries in your spine get blocked the blood can't flow around the back properly, so it can't deliver
all the vital nutrients as it should. This will cause you pain, so cut down on the fatty foods.
